Golf in Morocco

Golf in Morocco is a short golf blog that specifically looks at Golf in Agadir.

Northern Africa is not the first place you think of when it comes to golf holidays but believe me, it will blow you away.

I first went to Africa nearly twenty years ago and I have been back time and time again.

Egypt is a great country to visit with some stunning golf courses including El Gouna Golf Club, Dreamland Golf Resort, Katameya Dunes & Social Club, Katameya Heights Golf & Tennis Club & Soma Bay to list but a few.

Tunisia is also good with Golf Citrus,  Yasmine Golf Club, and Golf El Kantaoui.

But what about Morocco?

Morocco is full of great golf courses including Royal Golf Marrakech, Assoufid Golf Club, and Royal Palm Golf & Country Club.

All of these are based around Marrakech but what about the port of Agadir?

The city of Agadir is situated on the west coast of Morocco and has a population of around 1 million people. They speak Arabic, French and English and they are among some of the friendliest people that you will ever meet. Agadir is the perfect place to travel to in the winter as the average temperature in January & February is around 20 degrees. The economy is based on fishing and tourism.

Over the past 20 years, tourism has boomed in Agadir and is now quickly becoming an excellent golfing destination.

There are several excellent golf courses in the area of Agadir and each one is better than the next.

My Favourite Courses in Agadir
Golf Du Soleil

This was the first ever course that I played in Morocco. It is also one of my favourite courses in Agadir.
36 holes can be found in this complex as well as a driving range, chipping area, and putting green.  A pro shop, caddies, club & trolley hire and the best clubhouse terrace in Morocco.

Golf Les Dunes

A great club located just outside Agadir with 3 fantastic nine-hole courses. Really well-maintained greens and the staff are really friendly. The Caddies are a little too generous regarding gimmies but this doesn’t spoil your enjoyment.
27 Holes, driving range, chipping area, putting green, club and trolley rental & a good restaurant with an excellent menu.

Golf de l’Océan Golf

Another great golf complex in Agadir that has 27 holes that are not too difficult to play as long as you avoid the bunkers, they can be really cruel. The facilities include a driving range, chipping area, club and trolley hire & an excellent bar.

Tazegzout Golf

This course is definitely the best course in Agadir. A great new addition to the choice of courses with an excellent design and it hosts spectacular views of the Ocean.
My top tips would be to play here in September as that is the quieter period and eat elsewhere. The restaurant at the time that I visited wasn’t any good at all.

My Favourite Hotels in Agadir
Tikida Golf Palace

A Relais & Chateaux hotel located by Golf du Soleil. A beautiful hotel with fantastic food & drink. The staff cannot do enough to make your stay a memorable one. Highly recommended for couples. Check it out here.

Hyatt Place Taghazout Bay

Another fantastic golf hotel. Great facilities with a wide range of non-golfing activities. Excellent food and drink and kept very clean. Check this hotel out here.

Non-Golfing Activities in Agadir

Souk al Had is a huge market which is mainly undercover where you can buy spices, food jewellery, clothes, shoes, arts and crafts.

Camel rides on the local beach, Surfing in the bay, and The Souss Massa National Park.

My top tip for food is – Mechoui! This is a slowly cooked lamb dish flavoured with paprika, cumin & salt. Amazingly tender and flavoursome.
