Golfers and Wine

Golfers & Wine is a short golf blog post that lists some famous Golfers who also have their own wines.

I always thought that golfers only like whiskies but how wrong can one be.

It is in wine where the best players in the world are indulging themselves.

I have compiled a list below of some of my favourites.

Golfers and their wine
Nick Faldo

Wine lover, Faldo has a wonderful range of white & red wines. The 6 stripes on his label represent the 6 major golf tournaments that he has won over his career. His popular wines include: Chablis, Sauvignon de Touraine, Chateauneuf du Pape, Rioja, Barolo & Valpolicella Ripasso.

Gary Player

Stellenbosch Winelands in South Africa produces the wines for Player. His biggest seller is the ‘Major Championship Series’ Muirfield 1959, which is a wonderful red and one of a collection of 9 different wines to celebrate his 9 major victories.

Ernie Els

These wines are my favourite. The Big Easy has some quality wines including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc & a Petit Verdot. Wines range from his exclusive ‘Signature range’ to the ‘Big Easy’ budget range.

Jack Nicklaus

Mr Nicklaus has a delightful collection of classic wines including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Private Reserve White & Private Reserve Red. He also has a cheaper Cabernet Sauvignon under the label ‘Jack’s House’, great for a barbecue.

Retief Goosen

The wines are sold under the name ‘The Goose Wines’. It is a great collection of wines including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir & and Expression. This is a lovely range of wines with something for everyone.

Luke Donald

‘LDC’ or ‘Luke Donald Collection’, concentrates on the region of Napa Valley. His LDC Red is a combination of 44% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot, A deep, full-bodied flavour that goes great with strong red meats.

Greg Norman

Mixing it up a little at the Greg Norman Estates with Australian, New Zealand & Californian wines. Greg has a good solid collection including Reserve Cabernet, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Shiraz Cabernet.

Christie Kerr

Kerr Wines has a complete collection including White Bordeaux, a couple of Chardonnays, some lovely Cabernet Sauvignon. She offers three excellent wine memberships including Tee Time, Professional & Hall of Fame.

Annika Sorenstam

Selling under the name ‘Annika’ her Chardonnay is a dream. She also has a Syrah and of course, her famous ’59 Red’. Sadly the 59 Red is a rare red blend and is also not the cheapest, averaging at a price of Seventy Seven pounds per bottle.

Jan Stephenson

Another fantastic female golfer who has gone into the wine trade. 3 Majors White, 3 Majors Red, Cabernet Sauvignon, Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a Chardonnay. She is also getting bigger in the world of rum with 3 different versions.
